Job Description:
Responsibilities
. Research and write position papers on behalf of the Halifax Student Alliance, as directed by the
board to assist with policy development
. Assist in the development of all policy statements, standing orders and bylaws
. Prepare and distribute news releases in accordance with Halifax Student Alliance policy
statements
. Prepare and coordinate briefing documents, media conferences, and awareness events as
directed by the membership
. Maintain coordination with external groups, government officials and other student
organizations as required
. Supervise the home office and manage the financial affairs in conjunction with the treasurer,
and operational affairs of the office.
. Other duties as determined by the board, chair and officers
Qualifications
. Experience in policy development - specifically surrounding transportation, housing and crime
and safety issues
. Experience in advocacy work
. Knowledge of municipal and provincial government jurisdictions
. Completion of a post-secondary degree an asset
. Experience working with student groups an asset
. Self-motivated, ability to work unsupervised
Details
. 30 hours/week
. The successful candidate will begin working as soon as possible, with the term ending on June
1st 2008. There is potential for extension of the contract.
